“Men build walls… women build homes.” - A phrase that has lingered, and perhaps never been more relevant than in the design of Integrated Retirement Communities (IRCs). With women making up the majority of both residents and staff in retirement living, it’s time to ask: does gendered design matter?

About the event

We are looking forward to a dynamic roundtable (invitation only) bringing together women from architecture, planning, interior design, engineering, construction and development, all working at the forefront of retirement living innovation.

This session will explore:

  • Why designing with women, not just for them, is essential to creating inclusive, functional and successful homes for ageing

  • How women-led teams and female engagement in consultation processes can reshape outcomes in IRCs

  • The unique insights women bring to design, especially around social connectivity, spatial empathy and community-building
