Events update

Updated: Oct 29

Webinars

Overcoming imposter syndrome was our first webinar and looked at this subject and the impact it can have on confidence and anxiety and outcomes. We also heard some really great insights from the panel Ali Powell, Philippa Kellar, Cat Dowd and Chair Katherine Rose on coping and managing with imposter syndrome.

Boss or Bossy was an interesting look at navigating leadership in an unequal gender landscape. With thanks to our amazing panel for sharing their experiences: Leonie Stoate, Anne-Marie Nicholson, Ashleigh Bryant, and Chair Lizzie Pillinger.

Both webinars are on our website and well worth catching up with or revisiting. We also have a range of topics to cover in up and coming webinars... watch this space.

Conferences

Our very own Lizzie Pillinger represented WiRL at the Seniors Housing and Healthcare Association (SHHA) event in Brussels in June to discuss diversity and what WiRL aims to do in the UK. We will be working further with SHHA in 2025, keep an eye on our socials for updates!

We were at the Care Show Birmingham in October talking with an expert panel on why it is so hard for women business founders to attract funding and sharing ideas to support women and redress the imbalance in Show me the money! The idea for the topic came at the request of one of our network members, which we love. If you do have ideas please let us know, we are here to deliver what you want!

WiRL had a breakfast meet at UKREiiF in Leeds in May thanks to AtkinsRéalis’ support, and we are in discussion with UKREiiF on our participation in 2025, details will also be on socials.

We had a stand at the supplier hub at the ARCO conference in July and had many great conversations with new and old friends!

Speed mentoring

We were thrilled to welcome a group of mentors and mentees to our speed mentoring session on 16 October, kindly hosted by PRP. We enjoyed an honest and moving speech from Kevin Willetts of our partner, TIS who shared his experiences of mentoring throughout his career, followed by an informative and useful presentation on mentoring from Cat Dowd, Head of People and Culture at PRP, before launching into a series of 6-minute mentoring sessions. Each mentee was able to spend time with four different senior leaders in the sector gaining advice and guidance. There was a real buzz in the room and lots of good feedback, so we will be running this again!

Networking

Since our launch networking event in December 2023, we have been lucky to have wonderful sponsors and supporters who have hosted and supported further networking events in April and September hosted by JLL and Knight Frank.
