Nestled in a lively neighbourhood, ExtraCare’s Pannel Croft is home to 176 residents, with an impressive 80% identifying as Afro-Caribbean. This rich cultural tapestry creates a warm and inviting atmosphere where everyone feels at home.
The integrated retirement community (IRC) has a range of facilities including a bar, gym, library/IT suite, salon, indoor bowling and a bistro/restaurant. The bistro/restaurant offers an international menu with a special emphasis on Caribbean cuisine - residents can savour a variety of flavours ensuring that mealtime is not just about nourishment but a celebration of cultural heritage.
With cultural diversity at the heart of the community, Pannel Croft actively promotes and celebrates numerous cultural events throughout the year, including Black History Month, Windrush Day, Chinese New Year, Holi, St Patrick’s day and much more. Each celebration is complemented by specialised menus, giving residents experiences that honour the diverse community.
To foster resident engagement, the IRC offers a varied range of social and recreational activities designed to encourage participation and interaction including gardening club, cinema club, bingo, music club, dance and much more. It also has a wellbeing service with dedicated staff that focus on both physical and mental health, providing residents with the assistance they need to thrive in their golden years.
Pannel Croft is committed to raising awareness about different ethnicities and Afro-Caribbean history and culture. Initiatives such as the Windrush play and exhibition, along with fashion shows and arts & crafts activities, provide enriching educational experiences that celebrate their residents' heritage and facilitates connections between residents and the wider community. Looking ahead, the IRC aims to continue promoting diversity and inclusion through various activities and celebrations within ExtraCare and the wider community. By raising awareness within both the ExtraCare community and the local area, they hope to elevate its profile and foster deeper connections among residents and the wider community.
