Thank you to everyone who joined us bright and early for the WiRL breakfast at UKREIIF 2025 – and a special thanks to AtkinsRéalis for hosting us for the second year running. It was fantastic to see such strong support for our growing community.
We’re proud to announce that WiRL is now officially a membership organisation. As a member, you gain priority access to events and webinars, mentoring opportunities, leadership visibility, speaking platforms, and much more. We offer flexible membership options for individuals and organisations – and events are now free for members.
At the breakfast, we also shared some powerful statistics that reinforce why WiRL's mission is so essential:
The UK gender pay gap sits at 13.3%, down from 14.5% in 2022 – but at the current rate, it will take 33 years to close
Nearly 60% of construction employers in the UK still do not provide women’s PPE
Only 22% of board and leadership positions in property are held by women
Just 2p in every £1 of UK funding goes to female-founded businesses – only 2.9% of female entrepreneurs received full funding
Women make up 77% of the health and social care workforce – yet they remain underrepresented in leadership
44% of women say menopause symptoms have affected their ability to work, with 1 in 10 having left a job as a result
These numbers are sobering, but they also energise our mission. This is why we need WiRL, to support women across the retirement living sector in building careers, driving change, and shaping the future.
Coming up next:
Summer networking drinks – Thursday 12 June
Care Innovation Summit – Wednesday 19 June
Mentoring programme applications reopen this summer
Speed mentoring returns this autumn
If you haven’t joined WiRL yet, or if you know someone who should, now is the perfect time. You can find more information on our website or simply reach out to one of the team.
Thank you for being part of the WiRL community. We’re just getting started.
